Liz Charky is a director of Syrian, Sicilian, and Tonawanda-Seneca heritage, creating visual stories among the endless intersections of humor, heartbreak, love, and loneliness. Directing from a place of playfulness and empathy, her filmmaking instincts are informed by her training and experience as a choreographer, cinematographer, and editor. Her recent directing work has been featured in shots Unsigned Directors List, Frame Set, Camerimage (Golden Tadpole award nominee), Cucalorus Film Festival, among others. Liz was a 2023-2024 Connecticut College Film & Dance Visiting Artist, 2022 Telluride Film Festival FilmLab fellow, 2020-2022 AFI/Audi scholarship recipient. She holds an MFA in Cinematography from the American Film Institute and BA’s from Connecticut College in Dance and Film Studies, with a focus on gender & queer studies.
